Your inner ear is a set of fluid-filled canals with motion sensors. When your eyes, head, and body disagree, you feel dizzy, unsteady, or queasy. HeadPause gives your head a job to do and measures how well you do it. Slow positional routines for vertigo. Eyes-closed stillness for calibration. Horizon-holding for moving environments. The practice is the product.

How It Works

Three steps from install to your first score.

1

Pop in your AirPods

HeadPause reads head pitch, roll, and yaw from the motion sensors in your AirPods. No extra hardware, no microphone access, nothing to pair.

2

Pick a practice

Balance routines to guide you through BPPV maneuvers. Still sessions for eyes-closed steadiness. Motion sessions to hold the horizon in a moving environment.

3

Look at your score

Each session ends with a plain-English score. Calm score out of 100, percent held-steady, peak drift in degrees. Progress, streaks, and personal bests tracked locally.

Three ways to practice

Pick the one that matches what you feel. All guided, all timed, all scored the same way.

Balance

Vertigo and BPPV routines, in plain English.

Eight symptom-first routines (Epley, Semont, Brandt-Daroff, Half-Somersault, BBQ Roll, Gaze Stabilization). Each is a slow, guided sequence of head positions paced by voice.

  • Spinning when you tip your head back, right ear
  • Lingering dizziness between episodes
  • Spinning when you roll over in bed
  • Blurred vision when your head moves

Still

Eyes closed. Measure your stillness.

Pick a soundscape (ocean, forest, rain, silence) and a duration. HeadPause samples head motion ten times a second and scores how steady you held. The ambient wash fades when you drift and returns as you settle.

  • Calm score out of 100
  • Percent held-steady inside a ~6 degree window
  • Peak drift in degrees
  • Personal best across sessions

Motion

Hold the horizon. Stay grounded.

A steadiness anchor for moving environments. A soft box-breathing pacer plays in your AirPods while you keep your head level. Gentle haptic nudges if you drift out of the tolerance window for too long.

  • Horizon-hold percent across the session
  • Longest steady run in seconds
  • Built for cars, trains, planes, walking
  • Box-breathing pacer without voice

Who It Is For

Living with BPPV or positional vertigo

Eight symptom-labelled routines walk you through the same canalith repositioning maneuvers clinicians use. Educational, not a treatment.

Meditation and stillness practice

Eyes-closed sessions with audio feedback. The soundscape fades when your head drifts, giving you a quiet signal without having to open your eyes.

Motion-sensitive travel

Put the app on before a bumpy drive, a flight, a boat, or a busy train. The horizon anchor and paced breathing give your nervous system something predictable.

General balance and proprioception

Your vestibular system is always working. A few minutes a day of stillness training builds awareness of small drifts you would otherwise miss.

HeadPause is not a medical device. It does not diagnose or treat vertigo, BPPV, motion sickness, or any other condition. The scores and metrics are practice rulers, not clinical measurements. If dizziness is new, severe, or worsening, contact a clinician.

Private by default

HeadPause was built the same way PulseAware was: nothing leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to export it.

AirPods motion only

HeadPause reads head pitch, roll, and yaw from your AirPods. No microphone access, no audio recording, no HealthKit.

On-device scoring

Calm scores, drift readings, horizon-hold percentages, and completion history are calculated and stored locally on your iPhone.

No accounts

No sign-up, no email, no ad tracking. The app does not identify you to any server.

Optional iCloud

You can turn on iCloud sync to share practice history across your own devices. Encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple.
