Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 18, 2026

Overview

PulseAware is built with privacy as a core architectural principle, not a compliance checkbox. No cloud processing of your session data. Core analysis runs on-device. We do not operate user accounts or ad-tracking profiles.

Limited network activity occurs for Pro features: a one-time model download (WhisperKit from HuggingFace) for enhanced speech recognition, and Apple purchase verification for the Pro unlock. Neither of these transmits your session data.

Information We Do Not Collect

  • No user accounts or registration required
  • No advertising analytics, cross-app tracking, or personal usage profiles
  • No advertising identifiers (IDFA, IDFV)
  • No personally identifiable information (PII) of any kind
  • No audio recordings uploaded to servers
  • No health data shared with advertisers or data brokers

Microphone & Voice Data

PulseAware requests microphone access to analyze your speech in real time. Voice analysis, including words per minute, pitch, fillers, pauses, volume, and sentiment, is performed entirely on your iPhone using Apple's on-device speech recognition framework and custom digital signal processing algorithms. Pro users may opt into WhisperKit for enhanced recognition, which also runs entirely on-device after a one-time model download.

Audio data never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to export a session recording (WAV file) through the iOS share sheet. That export is entirely under your control and is not transmitted by PulseAware.

Apple Watch & Biometric Data

When an Apple Watch is paired, PulseAware receives heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), breathing rate, wrist temperature, and motion data via Apple's WatchConnectivity framework. This data is processed on your iPhone and stored locally in the app's SwiftData database. Biometric data is never transmitted externally.

Apple Health

PulseAware may request read-only access to Apple Health data, specifically resting heart rate, HRV, breathing rate, and body temperature, to establish your personal performance baseline. This data is queried on-demand within the app and is not stored separately from your Health database or transmitted anywhere.

PulseAware does not write any data to Apple Health.

Local Data Storage

All session data, reflections, settings, baselines, and preferences are stored locally on your device using SwiftData (SQLite), UserDefaults, and the iOS Keychain. Reflections are the mood, intensity, and context tags you save at the end of a session. Data is included in your standard iOS device backups (iCloud or local) according to your device settings.

Data Deletion

You can delete all PulseAware data at any time:

  • In-app: Settings → Reset All Data (deletes all sessions, reflections, baselines, and preferences)
  • By uninstalling: Deleting the app removes all PulseAware data from your device

HealthKit Usage Disclosure

PulseAware uses HealthKit to read baseline biometric data for personalization purposes only. HealthKit data will not be used for advertising, data brokers, or shared with third parties without your explicit consent.

Children's Privacy

PulseAware is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

Because PulseAware does not collect, sell, or share personal information, no additional CCPA-specific disclosures apply. You have the right to delete your data at any time as described above.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy to reflect product changes or legal requirements. Updates will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be noted in the app.
